Massage Therapy at PRE Therapy

Massage therapy is a highly-effective technique that manages and targets specific issues that hinder you from routine daily activities. At PRE therapy, we take this approach further to help you create a lasting platform for living a healthy and active life. We use a 3-phase approach to massage therapy: Pain Management, Restoration, Evolution. This approach helps us identify what pain or instability needs to be worked on right now, while providing you with a long-term solution for staying healthy and active. Your initial session includes a full body assessment and personalized plan, followed by your 1-on-1 treatment.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy provides you with many benefits beyond the primary muscle issue that you’re seeing your registered massage therapist (RMT) for. Massage therapy will also help to increase circulation, relieve tension, reduce stress, relieve anxiety, improve your sleep, and promote relaxation throughout your entire body.

If you spend long hours sitting for work or if you exercise semi-regularly, massage therapy will help to reduce your chance of postural weakness or injury. RMTs are trained in human anatomy and physiology and have a solid understanding of how the structures and systems within the human body work together. The treatments we provide at PRE Therapy are designed to be proactive in helping your overall long-term mobility and health.

FAQs

+ What is massage therapy used for?

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is used to treat soft-tissue injuries, chronic pain, muscle tension, postural dysfunction, stress-related tension, and post-surgical recovery. It's also an effective preventive tool for people who train regularly or spend extended hours at a desk.

+ Should massage therapy hurt?

Pressure during treatment can range from light to firm depending on your condition and comfort level. Some therapeutic discomfort in areas of tension is normal and expected. What you should not experience is sharp pain. Your therapist will check in throughout your treatment to make sure the pressure is working for you.

+ What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable athletics clothes that allow you to move freely are preferred in case your therapist provides you with some mobility exercises to help your overall body function.

+ Do you offer direct billing?

Yes. We direct bill to Pacific Blue Cross, Manulife, Sun Life, Great-West Life, Greenshield, Desjardins, and many more. Bring your benefits card and we'll handle the rest. ICBC patients are also welcome.

+ How often should I see an RMT?

For active recovery from an injury, most patients benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions in the early stages, transitioning to monthly maintenance as the body stabilizes. Your therapist will give you a specific recommendation based on your assessment findings.

+ Do I need a doctor's referral to book an appointment?

No referral is required to book with any of our therapists. You can book directly online at any time.

+ Is massage therapy covered by insurance in BC?

Most extended health benefit plans in BC cover Registered Massage Therapy (RMT). Coverage amounts vary by plan. We recommend checking with your provider before your first visit. We direct bill to most major insurers so you don't need to pay out of pocket and submit manually.

+ Do you accept ICBC patients?

Yes. We accept ICBC patients for Massage Therapy, Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Acupuncture and Chiropractic. Bring your claim number and your case manager's contact information to your first appointment.
