Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) at PRE Therapy

If you've had treatment for the same area of pain multiple times and it keeps coming back, it's usually not because the treatment failed — it's because the source of the problem wasn't found. NKT works at the level where most manual therapy can't: the motor control center in your brain. After an injury or period of compensation, your nervous system essentially rewrites how certain muscles are supposed to fire — turning some off and overloading others to protect you. Those compensations become baked in, even after the original injury heals. NKT uses precise manual muscle testing to identify exactly which muscles are inhibited and which are overworking as a result, then uses targeted release and activation to reset the pattern. The difference from regular massage or physiotherapy is that NKT addresses the neurological program driving the problem, not just the tissue expressing it.

FAQs

+ What is NKT?

Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) identifies dysfunctional muscle firing patterns stored in your brain's motor control system. Using manual muscle testing, your practitioner maps which muscles are switched off and which are compensating — then uses a specific release-and-activation protocol to restore the correct pattern. It's often used when pain keeps returning despite other treatments, because it addresses the neurological root of the compensation rather than just the symptomatic tissue.

+ What does an NKT Session loook like?

Your NKT session begins with a series of manual muscle tests — your practitioner will apply light pressure to various muscles while you resist, creating a map of which are firing correctly and which aren't. Once a compensation pattern is identified, they'll release the overactive muscle (typically with a brief massage technique) and immediately test the inhibited muscle to confirm it's now able to activate. You'll then be given a specific corrective exercise to reinforce the new pattern. Sessions are dynamic — you'll be moving on and off the table, not lying still for the duration. Most patients find the process immediately eye-opening, as the before-and-after difference in muscle function is often perceptible during the session itself.

+ How does PRE Therapy incorporate this treatment in a unique and different way?

NKT is a protocol that will help determine the cause of the dysfunction and discomfort. Neurokinetic therapy is paired with manual therapy to address the areas of high tension and followed up with a specific activation protocol to allow for the motor control center to restore the proper movement pattern.

+ What is the PRE Therapy NKT Clinic experience like?

Treatments involving NKT at PRE Therapy are usually performed with sportswear, allowing the patient to hop on/off the table throughout the treatment. Thus allowing our practitioners to assess/re-assess continually each corrective pattern performed.

+ How does the pricing work for this treatment?

Pricing is the exact same as a standard treatment. More details are available on our pricing and insurance page.

+ What are the benefits of NKT?

Instead of just alleviating the symptoms, this method allows for the body to re-learn how it moves where dysfunctional movement patterns currently exist, ultimately experiencing longer, sustained results in workouts or daily life.

+ Who is this treatment for?

NKT is for anyone! Whether you are sedentary, a weekend warrior, or a full-time athlete, we all experience different kinds of discomfort that can be treated effectively by neurokinetic therapy.
